Location:
Fusion Dubai is a converted classic Arabian villa, run as a boutique bed and breakfast, situated in a quiet residential area in the heart of Jumeirah, Dubai. This area, between the new Dubai Marina and Old Dubai, consists mainly of beautiful villas, making for a quiet and ideal place to explore Dubai from. The villa is about a 20 to 30 minute walk, if you know which way to go, to the closest public beach, should you choose to walk in the heat. If you rather not walk in the heat, a taxi ride to the beach should not cost you more than 10 AED. A taxi from the airport should not cost you more than 60AED, usually less if they find the villa without difficulty. There is a small strip mall with a grocery store and a few other stores within a a 2 to 3-minute walk of the villa where you can stock up on water, snacks or grab something quick to eat. This is also where you can usually find a taxi with ease if you don't see one on the main road near the villa right away. There is also a bus station close to the villa on the main road. Some taxi drivers have difficulty finding the location, so be sure to get directions from the owners before arriving in Dubai. However, once you get to the villa and understand where it's located, it will be easy to find and you will easily be able to explain the directions to the next taxi you get into. Dubai is a very large city and the attractions in Dubai are spread out, so we can't say that there is one good location for you to stay in Dubai as taxis will be your main mode of transport anyway, but we can say that this location made for a quiet, private and homey place to come back to after a long day of sight seeing.
Room Comfort:
The villa and rooms are beautifully decorated with charming yet stylish decorations. The 15-rooms are comfortable with large bathrooms. A flat screen TV, mini fridge, air conditioning and wifi are available in every room. Bathroom toiletries, including a toothbrush, toothpaste and a full sized soap are provided along with a pleasant surprise of a large bottle of water and full-sized Milka chocolate in your fridge. The bedding was soft and comfortable. The atmosphere at the villa is very calm and relaxed, which tends to rub off on its guests. The owners and staff make it very easy for you to feel at home and before you know it you are relaxing by the pool, on the deck or in the villas' common area thinking this is your new home. Unfortunately the dream does end at one point as eventually you will have to return to your real home. In addition to the rooms, there is a common breakfast room, a common living room, a nice small outdoor pool on the property, several outdoor lounge areas and an outdoor bar area where you could sometimes find the owner with her friends.
Cleanliness:
The cleaning staff at this place does a fantastic job as all of the areas of the villa, inside and out, are kept very clean.
Service:
The service was good and the owners are very nice; however, both could be sometimes hard to find. If you needed something and could not find anyone, the easiest way was to call the owner (who is in and out of the villa during the day). If you don't have a local number or phone, this may be a little more challenging but is a preferred alternative to always having someone around and reducing the great private ambiance that is created by their absence. It is very easy to find the owner or the staff in the mornings should you have any questions or need something. If you are the type of person that needs the full attention of hotel staff then this isn't the place for you as this is more of a place to stay if you value your privacy and a homey place to come back at the end of your day.
Food:
Breakfast was your only meal available here and is included with the booking of your room. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and we enjoyed it every morning. The breakfast is held in the main area around a large wooden table that is filled from one end to the other with a variety of foods to satisfy everyone.
Overall Value:
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again when we return to Dubai. We would also recommend this bed and breakfast to those travellers that like privacy, comfort, a sense of home and don't require the services of the hotel staff on a constant basis. As we mentioned, the owners are very nice but could be hard to find which could be a positive or negative thing depending on your needs and preferences. We rarely need anything so for us it was the perfect setting. The villa is beautiful and made for a relaxing retreat after a long day in Dubai's heat. The price was also great as Dubai is a very expensive city and accommodations in Dubai can easily exceed several hundred dollars for a night.
Other Notes:
Dubai is a large city with many things to see that are located throughout the large city. If possible, a rental car would make getting around the city and seeing the sights more convenient. However, if a rental car is not your preferred choice of transport, taxis are relatively inexpensive and easily attained anywhere in the city. There is also a new metro in Dubai; however, not all the stations were opened during our stay and the closest station to this place is still relatively far. We should also mention that the owners opened a Greek/Cypriot restuarant in Dubai that you should visit called Yai Yai.
