Location:
Hotel San Pietro is located in Cartagena, just a few steps away from shops and restaurants and close to a public beach. Furthermore, this hotel is about a 30-45-minute walk to the boat marina (where you can take boats to the beautiful nearby islands), as well as the historic part of Cartagena. The hotel is not located within the tourist historical center as suggested on their website, but is close by so the location is decent for exploring Cartagena. Taxis are inexpensive and very easy to find, so if you don't like to walk, this is certainly a good option.
Room Comfort:
The rooms were basic and small. The walls and bedding were colourful, giving the room some character, but the lack of a window to the outside made it seem a bit gloomy. We had booked a superior double since we were told these were the larger rooms; however, we think that we were given a standard room even though we had paid for the superior room. We did query whether we received the superior room but the hotel staff insisted that they had given us a superior room. Since this room was basically the size of a large closet that barely fit a double bed and two night tables, we wonder what the standard rooms look like. The hotel was fully booked so we did not have the opportunity to see any other rooms. The rooms did have air conditions and private bathrooms which was a plus. The locks on the doors felt flimsy making us feel uneasy about leaving valuables in the hotel room.
Cleanliness:
The rooms and restaurant were clean and well maintained. The pool area located on the top level could have used more attention as it was starting to show signs of deterioration. The tables on the roof were dirty as there was garbage left behind from other guests that no one cleaned.
Service:
The hotel staff helped answer all questions that we had and also helped with booking boat trips to the islands. Since we believe we were given a standard room instead of the superior room that we paid for, we can't speak too highly of their service.
Food:
Although there is an Italian restaurant onsite, we ate dinners at the Colombian restaurants nearby. Breakfast was included in the room booking and contained a wide selection of decent food.
Overall Value:
Even though we feel the hotel is nice and could make for a comfortable stay, we can't say that it's of great value. If the room we received and paid for was in fact a Superior room, then the rooms are too small. If we paid for a Superior room and received a standard room, we were ripped-off.
Other Notes:
The best part of our stay was visiting the little, cute and friendly monkey, Pilli, that they kept at the hotel. Every morning and every evening we stopped by to say hi to Pilli and keep him company for a few minutes as he seemed sad and lonely. He is kept in a cage at all times so you don't have to worry about monkeys running around, but if you do happen to visit the hotel, stop by and say hello to Pilli. He would love a little bit of company.
