Location:
The hotel is located in the small village of Kastraki, just beneath the Monasteries that this area is famous for; a good location for exploring the Monasteries and surrounding area. The hotel is just off the main road, with easy access to Taverns and shops. A car is recommended for getting to this hotel and around the surrounding areas, but to reach the Monasteries we left the car at the hotel and explored them on foot.
Room Comfort:
There are approximately 10 rooms at this family run establishment, with some rooms facing the rocks of Meteroa. The rooms are fairly large but simply decorated. All rooms have a small TV and wireless internet. The bathroom was also spacious, but we found the bathroom tiles a little tacky, in need of upgrading. We had a corner room which had a balcony that wrapped around the back and side of the building, providing us with a lovely view of the rocks. Unfortunately, the view was partially obstructed by a property that had loose farm animals and some rubbish in their yard, which we found more amusing than disturbing.
Cleanliness:
The rooms were very clean, along with the hotel restaurant and grounds. As mentioned this is a family run establishment and the owners take pride in offering their guests the best comfort they can provide. We noticed that the owners took every available moment to clean or maintain the hotel by either cleaning the windows, cleaning the kitchen, and so on.
Service:
The service was great. Although we did not have much chance to converse with the owners, we were made to feel very welcomed. Check-in and check-out were relaxed and hassle-free. We initially only booked one night at this hotel but decided to stay a second night as we did enjoy being at this family run establishment.
Food:
There is a very nice restaurant (with a lovely fireplace) on-site. Breakfast was included with the booking, which was basic but filling. It included fresh bread with jam/butter, hard boiled eggs, some fruit, cookies, and coffee/tea or juice. Lunch and dinner were also available at their tavern upon request. We had been told that they make delicious homemade Greek food, but unfortunately we did not get a chance to experience it as we weren't aware that we could request dinner during our stay.
Overall Value:
Overall, we did enjoy our stay due to the family that runs the hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean, but could use a little bit more character. The price was good and the location was also good. The village of Kastraki is quieter than its neighbouring village Kalambaka. We would recommend this hotel to others simply because the owners are kind, the rooms are clean and the price is right. However, if we visit this region again, we may try to stay at one of the other small family owned establishments nearby.
